Here it is, I just got out of a 21h bus journey from Cuzco to Lima, and I'm at Lima airport waiting for my Lima-London flight (via Madrid). So this is pretty much it!! GAME OVER!
As I wrote earlier this week, I will have a few drinks to celebrate the end of the trip, and this will be at the Edinboro Castle pub in Camden town, this Friday (July 16th) from 7pm.

Well, the end of the trip is getting very close! Only 3 days left in Cuzco and I'll be taking a bus to Lima and my plane back to London. These 8 months have gone really really quickly. But I'm glad I'm finishing the whole trip in the best possible way!! I came back last night from a 5 days trek in the Salkantay mount area, finishing it all with a long day in Machu Picchu. The last 5 days were absolutely brilliant.
When the trek started I was a bit worried since there were 18 people in the group, and trekking with 18 people is pretty close to my own idea of hell! Luckily though, the 18 people were all really nice and great company in the evenings and lunch time. During the rest of the day, as I tend to walk quite fast, I was pretty far in front and had the whole nature for myself most of the time. On the second day I got nicknamed "speedy gonzales" or the "hiking machine" when I did the 4h (in theory) climb to the 4600m pass in only 1h45mn, while still taking 80 photos on the way! So I'm quite glad I'm finishing this trip with a lot of hiking, in a good physical shape (not sure I have completely lost all the weight I put on in Argentina though, but it's not too bad).
The trek itself was beautiful. Each of the first 3 days had a completely different landscape: mountains, valleys, jungle, etc... and finishing by a 13 hours visit to Machu Picchu (from 4am to 5pm) was unbelievable. What an awe-inspiring place. It's full of tourists (about 4000 people a day), but the aura of the place still takes over quite easily and I'm really very very very happy to finish these 8 months of travelling there. We climbed there very early in the morning so we managed to get a pass to climb Huayna Picchu as well (only 400 people allowed each day) from where we had an incredible view over Machu Picchu and the whole area.
Today I'm going to take it easy, going for lunch and an "Andean Reggae" music festival with two cool french girls I met in Arequipa. I will visit some of the sacred valley and a few ruins around Cuzco in the next 2 days ... and then, it's "Game Over"!!
If you're in London on Friday 16th, I will have a big "come back party", so book your evening. I'm not too sure exactly where it will be, but I'm thinking maybe the Edinboro Castle pub near Camden town if the weather is nice enough. I will put the confirmed location here a few days before.

Bon, la fin du voyage approche! Plus que 3 jours a Cuzco, et je prendrai un bus pour Lima puis mon avion de retour a Londres. Ces 8 mois sont vraiment passe tres tres vite. Mais je suis super content de finir le voyage de la meilleure facon qui soit!! La nuit derniere je suis rentre de 5 jours de trek dans la region du mont Salkantay, qui s'est termine par une longue journee au Machu Picchu. Les 5 derniers jours ont ete vraiment fantastiques.
Quand le trek a commence, j'etais un peu inquiet car on etait 18 dans le groupe, et faire de la randonnee a 18 est assez proche de l'idee que je me fait de l'enfer! Heureusement, coup de chance, les 18 personnes etaient toutes vraiment tres sympa et de bonne compagnie le soir et au moment du dejeuner. Pendant le reste de la journee, comme j'ai tendance a marcher assez vite, j'etais assez loin devant et j'avais la nature pour moi tout seul la plupart du temps. Le deuxieme jour j'ai herite des surnoms de "speedy Gonzales" et "la machine a randonner" apres que j'ai fait l'ascension de 4h (en theorie) du col a 4600m en seulement 1h45mn, en prenant quand meme 80 photos en chemin! Je suis donc assez content de finir le voyage avec beaucoup de randonnee et dans une bonne forme physique (pas sur que j'ai perdu tout le poids que j'ai pris en Argentine, mais c'est pas trop mal quand meme).
La randonnee elle-meme etait magnifique. Chacun des 3 premiers jours avait des paysages completements differents: montagnes, vallees, jungle, etc... et finir par 13 heures de visite au Machu Picchu (de 4h du matin a 5h de l'apres midi) etait incroyable. Quel endroit grandiose. C'est certe plein de touristes (4000 par jour environ), mais l'aura de l'endroit l'emporte largement et je suis vraiment tres tres tres content de finir ces 8 mois de voyage la-bas. On est monte tres tot le matin donc on a reussi a avoir les entrees pour grimper en haut du Huayna Picchu (seulement 400 personnes par jour autorisees) d'ou on avait une vue incroyable sur la Machu Picchu et toute la region.
Aujourd'hui je vais y aller tranquille. Dejeuner puis concert de "reggae des Andes" avec deux francaises cool que j'ai rencontre a Arequipa. Je visiterai une partie de la vallee sacree et quelques ruines autour de Cuzco dans les 2 prochains jours .... et ensuite, c'est "Game Over"!!
Si vous etes sur Londres le Vendredi 16, je vais organiser une grosse "fete de retour", alors reservez votre soiree. Je ne suis pas encore sur ou ca sera exactement, mais je pensais peut etre le pub Edinboro Castle a Camden town si il fait assez beau. Je mettrai une confirmation de l'endroit sur le blog quelques jours avant.

First post in Peru, and one of the last posts too!! :-(
The end of the trip is really coming very fast now.
I just arrived in cuzco this morning after a week spent between Puno, Arequipa and the Canyon del Colca which I really liked. It's the second deepest canyon in the world (the deepest is in the same area but harder to access), so it made for some really nice hiking down and up and down and up the canyon for the last 3 days.
Arequipa is a very nice town too and I wish I could have spent more time there, but I wanted to save some time for Cuzco and its area so I took the night bus last night.
Cuzco looks really very very nice, but also really very very very very touristy, and I'm not sure I will ike it that much. At the moment I'm thinking of how to get to Machu Pichu ... all the tours and hiking option are very expensive and busy, so I might opt for something much simpler like going my own way stopping in some little villages. I've done lots of hiking during the trip anyway, and I'm not sure the hiking in the area is really to my taste (too busy, expensive and overrated). We'll see!

Je suis arrive a Cuzco ce matin apres une semaine passee a Puno, Arequipa et dans le Canyon del Colca qui m'a beaucoup plu. C'est le deuxieme canyon le plus profond du monde (le plus profond est dans la meme region mais plus difficile d'acces), donc ca a donne lieu a quelques belles randonnees pour descendre, remonter, redescendre et remonter dans le canyon lors des 3 derniers jours.
Arequipa est une tres jolie ville egalement et j'aurais bien aime y passer plus de temps, mais je voulais garder quelques jours pour Cuzco et sa region donc j'ai pris le bus de nuit hier soir.
Cuzco me semble etre une ville tres tres belle, mais aussi tres tres tres tres touristique, et du coup je ne suis pas sur que ca va me plaire tant que ca. Pour le moment je me demande comment je vais aller au Machu Pichu ... tous les tours me paraissent vraiment tres chers et tres peuples donc je risque d'opter pour une solution plus simple comme par exemple y aller par moi meme en m'arretant dans les petits villages en chemin. J'ai deja fait beaucoup de randonnee lors de ce voyage et je ne suis pas sur que la randonnee dans le coin soit forcement a mon gout (trop de monde, trop chere, et un peu surfaite). on verra!

Se acerca muy rapido la fin del viaje ahora.
Llegue a Cuzco esta manana despues una semana pasado a Puno, Arequipa y en el Canon del Colca que me guste mucho. Es el secundo mas profundo canon en el mundo (el mas profundo es en la misma zona pero es mas dificil de acceso), entonces fui un bueno lugar para senderismo y caminar abajo, arriba, abajo y arriba en el canon para las 3 precedentes dias.
Arequipa es una ciudad muy linda tambien, y habria querido pasar mas tiempo alli, pero queria guardar algun dias  para Cuzco y su zona, entonces, tome el bus ayer por la noche.
Me parece que Cuzco es une ciudad muy muy linda, pero muy muy muy muy turistica tambien, entonces, no estoy seguro que me va tan gustar. Para el momento, estoy buscando como ir a Machu Pichu ... todos los tours me parecen muy caros y muy poblados, entonces, tak vey voy a escoger algo mas simplo como por ejemplo ir solo con paradas en los pequenos pueblos en el camino. He ya hecho mucho senderismo en este viaje y no estoy seguro que el senderismo en la zona me gustera mucho (demasiado gente, demasiado caro, y un poco sobreestimado). Vamos a ver!
